About Assumption
Mission Statement
“Assumption College School is our catholic learning community where we strive for excellence and we work to Become Respectful, Responsible Individuals Who are ready to serve our World In the Spirit of Christ”
History
In 1941, Brantford Catholic High School opened in the basement of St. Ann’s Elementary School with just one Grade 9 class. A new class was added each year until 1951 when the school moved to a former residence on Dufferin Ave. From 1951 to 1978, the priests of the Congregation of the Resurrection acted as the principals. In 1959, the schools name changed to St. John’s College.
In 1991, enrolment exceeded 1700 students. This necessitated the opening of Assumption College in September, 1992, with fewer than 600 students.
In 2001, Holy Trinity, Simcoe was built to decrease the large populations at Assumption College (1600 students in the year 2000) and St. John’s College.
After, it was recognized that the school population was growing (over 1500), and an expansion was needed. In February 2008, the 3rd floor was built, including new classrooms, science labs, and a cosmetology lab. The new facilities have allowed us to offer new and exciting programs to better serve our students.
Currently, Assumption College School has a population of 1481.
Principal’s Message
Welcome to Assumption College School (ACS) and the ‘Lion’s Den’!
We are a Catholic Educational community offering a very high standard of education based on Catholic values. Our curriculum reflects Catholic beliefs, and we celebrate the Word of the Lord on a daily basis. We take great pride in the fact that we are able to bring a spiritual dimension and a Catholic curriculum to our highly successful academic program.
Assumption College School is an exhilarating, dynamic, and safe place to learn and to grow academically, personally, socially and in faith. We have a remarkable community here at Assumption College and we continue to strive to be a place where the infusion of Gospel values is actively practiced. Treating people with respect and dignity in our daily activities is a critical component of our school. We are blessed with a teaching and support staff dedicated to providing our students with excellent learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom.
Over the last 3 decades, Assumption College School has established a reputation of high academic achievement and a school that provides a wide variety of choices for students so they can grow to their full potential and be prepared for post-secondary school. Our entire staff works hard to make every student feel they belong and are supported in achieving their goals.
Assumption College School also has a long tradition of mixing academic excellence with amazing extra-curricular activities and community involvement. Students find many opportunities to be a part of the ‘Lion’ tradition of excellence in athletics, drama, music, or one of the many other remarkable clubs or activities at Assumption College School and seize the opportunity to be part of the ACS school community and all that it has to offer. The caring and committed staff at ACS are always prepared and willing to volunteer their time so that our students high school years are rewarding and memorable.
With God’s blessing and your participation, we can achieve great things for our Assumption College School community.
Thank you for entrusting the education of your child to Assumption College School.
‘Go Lions!’
