HEALTH CARE TPJ2O Health Care, Grade 10, Open
This course introduces students to personal health promotion, child and adolescent healthconcerns, and a variety of medical services, treatments, and technologies. Students will become familiar with various instruments and equipment and will learn about human anatomy, organs, and body chemistry, as well as the effects that lifestyle choices can have on personal well-being. They will plan recreational activities for youth, perform a dietary analysis, and evaluate health care practices. Students will develop an awareness of environmental and societal issues related to health care, and will explore secondary and postsecondary pathways leading to careers in the fi eld. Prerequisite: None
TPJ3C Health Care, Grade 11, College Preparation
This course focuses on the development of knowledge and skills that will benefi t students planning a career in the health care field. Students will learn about human anatomy and physiology, homeostasis, vital signs, disease prevention and treatment, how lifestyle choices affect health and well-being, and conventional and complementary methods of disease prevention and treatment. Students will develop an awareness of health and safety issues, environmental and societal issues related to health care, and career opportunities in the fi eld. Prerequisite: None

Students will also expand their awareness of workers’ health and safety issues, environmental and societal issues related to health care and postsecondary destinations in the fi eld. TOJ4C Child Development and Gerontology, Grade 12, College
This course enables students to examine the stages of child development and the aging process. Students will study the processes of disease and factors contributing to health and well-being in early and later life, and will develop skills required to meet the needs of chldren and older adults (care skills). Students will also learn about legislation governing the care of children and older adults; evaluate social and recreational activities, programs, and services for improving quality of life; and develop an awareness of health and safety issues, environmental and social issues, and career opportunities rlated to child care and gerontology.
